The Seminole Warhawk Marching Band has a 50 year tradition of excellence
including past decades awards of multiple Festival of States - Florida Representative,
Virginia Beach National Marching Band Festival Grand Champions (1978),
a half-time performance for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers,
multiple championships at the Largo Golden Invitational,
Florida Tournament of Bands, and over 35 years of superior ratings
at the Florida Bandmasters Association Marching Festivals.
In addition, the Warhawk Band was a national finalist band at the
Marching Bands of America competition in Jacksonville, Florida.
In 2005 the Seminole Band marched in the Tournament of Roses Parade
in Pasadena, California, in 2007 they appeared in the Disney
Christmas Day Parade, and in 2010 the band performed for the
first time in Pinellas County history in the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade.
The Warhawk Band returned to the Pasadena Tournament of Roses Parade in 2013!
Recently, within the last seventeen years the Warhawk Band has been a
TWENTY FIVE time Bands of America Regional Finalist, a two time
Atlanta Regional Grand Champion, a seven time Semi-Finalist Grand Nationals Band,
and a two time Grand Nationals Finalist Band. Regional finals performances
have been in Atlanta, Orlando, Tennessee, Daytona Beach, St. Petersburg
and Las Vegas. Years of participation were 1991, 1992, 1993, 1994, 1995,
1997, 1998, 1999, 2000, 2001, 2002, 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008,
2009, and 2011. In 1996 the Warhawk Band was the National AA-division
champion at the W.G.I. Friendship Cup Championships in St. Louis, MO.
Recently, the Seminole HS Marching Band was the 2011 and 2012 FMBC Class 4A
State Champion held at Tropicana Field!
Locally, the marching band has been a multiple grand champion at the
famous Largo Golden Invitational and recently was the grand champion
at the Largo GI for 2006 through 2010. The Warhawk band has won the
Grand Championship since 1999 at the Tarpon Springs Outdoor Music Festival
and in addition has won Outstanding Brass, Woodwinds, Color Guard,
General Effect, Visual, and Music. Furthermore, the band has received
straight superior ratings at the Florida Bandmasters Association District
Marching Festival for the past 35 years! In addition the Seminole HS Band
has won 1st place and the Mayor's Cup at the Pinellas Park Christmas Parade
17 times out of the last 19 years!
Caption Awards at BOA, WGI,and local events have included outstanding visual,
music, general effect, high percussion, brass, woodwinds, drum major and
color guard. The Warhawk Band has performed for the Tampa Bay Rays Baseball Team,
The Seminole Pow Wow Parade, Festival of States Host Band, and local events
within the Tampa Bay area.
The Seminole HS Winter Guard has also had a long tradition of excellence in the
Winter Guard International Circuit. The program was started in the early 90's by
Alan Smith, Adam Sage, and Michael James. In the 90s the guard was a multiple
time regional and national finalist. The guard was the 1993 Scholastic A Bronze
Medalist and a Scholastic Open Finalist in 1994 and 1995. After a short break
from WGI Seminole was a WGI Scholastic A Finalist in 2001 and 2002. They were
then promoted to Scholastic Open Class in 2003. Seminole was an Open Class
Finalist in 2005, 2006 and 2007. In 2007 Seminole earned the bronze medal in
Scholastic Open and was promoted to Scholastic World Class for the 2008 Season.
The Seminole Winter Guard has been an active WGI Scholastic World Class Finalist
from 2008 - 2013. They are one of 26 Scholastic World Class guards world wide!
The Seminole Winter Guard has simultaneously been an active participant in the Florida Federation of Color Guards Circuit since before 1990 and has medaled at the FFCC Championships almost every year they have attended. They were the 2012 FFCC Gold Medalist and 2013 Bronze Medalist in Scholastic World. The Winter Guard at Seminole has also been a WGI Regional Finalist and Champion in Tampa, Fort Lauderdale, Miami, Jacksonville, Gainesville, Nashville, Orlando and Atlanta. The current Winter Guard staff has included Guard Director - Carrie Short, Chad Guess, Alan Smith, Chavis Cook, Ashlyn Eddinger and Alexa Conte. Various world class clinicians and designers are brought in every year for another added dimension and level. Some years the winter color guard program boasts two winter guards at the World and A class levels. The Seminole Winter Color Guard Program has been the leader and consistent performer and finalist of all the schools in the Tampa Bay area. In addition, Seminole Middle School also has a winter color guard program that has been the consistent FFCC Cadet Class Champion for over a six year time period.
The Seminole High School Wind Ensemble has earned straight superior ratings at the
Florida Bandmasters District Assessment for the past 18 years with a total of an
overall superior rating for the past 21 YEARS! This is a Pinellas County record
that no other school holds. Members of the Seminole Wind Ensemble have performed
with the Florida All State bands and orchestras, BOA Honor Band and Orchestra,
USF Festival of Winds and many of honor groups. The Seminole Wind Ensemble also
has been invited to play at the National Concert Festival in 1994, 1998, and 2001.
An average of over 90 superior medals are earned each year at FBA Solo and
Ensemble District Festival. Students of the Seminole Wind Ensemble have won
numerous amounts of money in scholarships and have gone on to study at some of
the country's most prestigious conservatories and other schools of music. Some
post secondary schools include UF, FSU, UM, UCF, USF, New England Conservatory,
Juilliard, Manhattan School of Music, Rice University, Oberlin, Indiana, Michigan,
San Francisco Conservatory, Boston Conservatory, Berklee, Yale, LSU, and
many others. The Seminole Wind Ensemble has performed in Gatlinburg, Williamsburg,
Washington DC, Chicago, Colorado Springs, Indianapolis, Boston, New Orleans,
Greenville, Gainesville, and Atlanta. The Seminole High School Wind Ensemble
has been the forerunner for the state of Florida at the high school level of
new literature and works written for wind band. From the stage of Boston
Symphony Hall to the stage of Seminole High School the wind ensemble has remained
a consistent concert ensemble of the SHS Band Program that always strives for
